Undeserved beauty
This year I made the decision to remove gladiolus from my garden. It is not that I did not like gladiolus, as they have provided me with a variety of beautiful flowers every year. Rather, I wanted to change the purpose of the garden from flowers to fruits. In order to achieve my goal, I had to prepare the ground, removing the bulbs to prevent the gladiolus from germinating again.
I have not yet received the expected fruit. However, in the middle of the garden a gladiolus appeared with the most beautiful flower I had ever seen. Although I wanted to change the purpose of the garden, what I wanted to get rid of resurfaced with resilience, granting me with undeserved beauty.
Our lives bear a resemblance to this garden. We feel dissatisfied and undertake the task to find a purpose for our lives. Why is it so difficult for us to find purpose? Society places a high value on production and results, and we try to apply the same concept to our lives. As a result, the search is unsuccessful and we find that nothing gives us satisfaction. Could it be that we are looking in the wrong place?
We were created in the image of our God. We were created to be in relationship with our God and enjoy the benefits of His presence. However, sin separated us from that purpose, bringing pain and death as a result.
Our state of spiritual decline makes us forget our original purpose. But God has not forgotten the beauty that he designed in each of us. That beauty is so precious to God that He decided to sacrifice Himself to redeem us from our sin and restore our original purpose.
Do we deserve such a sacrifice? No. But despite your past decisions, God wants His purpose to be fulfilled in you and your life to reflect the beauty for which you were designed.
