Back to normal
There are few things we can all agree on. I am sure that one of them is that after everything we have experienced during 2020, we all hope to go back to normal.
We hope that all this ends and we can move freely again, leaving behind the fear of infection. We look forward to things going back to the way they were before the pandemic. But do we really want things to go back to the way they were before? There is nothing normal about the way things were before the pandemic.
We have become accustomed to lack of civility, lies, sexual distortion, greed, violence, and things like this. Although these have become the usual or ordinary, they have nothing to do what is supposed to be natural or normal.
God created us in his image, therefore, every person in this world has an intrinsic value bestowed by his creator. Every time I mistreat or act without respect against another person, regardless of the differences they may have with me, I affect a person who carries the image of God and for whom God has purposes. That person not only has a father, a mother, family and friends, but also a God who, not only created him/her, but also sacrificed himself to redeem and save him/her.
The pandemic will pass, but we have to think well about what is the normal we want to return to. The moral and spiritual pandemic to which we are accustomed is much worse, and although we may not have realized it, we don’t need to undergo a test to know that we have all been infected by it.
This pandemic is called sin and its prognosis is death and eternal separation from God.
Thank God that the cure is in Jesus. He offers us immunity and the assurance of eternal life. Only then we will have returned to back to normal.
