The Lord’s Prayer – our Provider (part 2)
In our previous blog we talked about God as our provider. However, we might ask why if God is our provider, there are people whose needs doesn’t seem to be provided for. Why is God not doing something about that?
We need to understand that we live in a fallen world. It has evolved from God´s design. The perfect environment of the Garden of Eden was displaced by a constantly decaying world. The reason: we decided to reject God’s advice while becoming our own gods. But God doesn’t want the world to continue in its current condition. Even the creation eagerly longs for our redemption (Rom 8:19-22).
Meanwhile, what about the needy in this world? Has God forgotten them? Are their prayers unheard? No. The bible is very clear about God’s concern for them. In God’s kingdom, which is being established, justice for those in need is a main topic.
- God reproved his people for their injustice and oppression against the poor.
- Jesus’ ministry was highlighted for his work among those in need and those rejected.
- Taking care of those in need is one of the things that His church is must not forget to do.
Some might still ask, if God cares about the needy, then why Jesus didn’t end injustices and poverty? Think about it. If Jesus had, it would have been a temporary solution. Due to humanity’s sinful nature, injustice and its consequences would be reigning again not long after Jesus returned to heaven (the story of the Garden of Eden repeated). Our only solution was for Jesus to solve the issue at the heart of humanity: sin (the source of injustice its consequences). This is why God´s main priority it to change hearts.
Don´t lose hope. A permanent solution is on its way. Everything wrong in this world will cease to exist when His kingdom comes.
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” – Revelations 21:4-5
Now we can only see glimpses of what is to come. Can’t wait to see it? Engage in the establishment of His kingdom, including fighting injustice and caring for those in need, as we continue to pray for our daily bread, His kingdom to come, and His will to be done.
