The Lord’s Prayer – the King (part 3)
As we have discussed in our previous blogs, love is of utmost importance in God’s kingdom. Why? Though God is our king, He is also our Father. Becoming his children came at a huge price: Jesus’ sacrifice in the cross. He saved us, not to become our king (which He already was), but to become our father.
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12-13
More than becoming part of a kingdom, salvation made us part of a family. As we know, there is no perfect family, and there are always conflicts between family members. As any parent wants peace among their children, so our heavenly Father. That is why loving our neighbor brothers and sisters is so important.
One way to show our love for God is to imitate Him. The word of God clearly states that His family should inherit His traits.
- Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us… – Ephesians 5:1-2
- Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who… emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant…humbled himself by becoming obedient… – Philippians 2:5-8
- put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator – Colossians 3:10
- You shall be holy, for I am holy – 1 Peter 1:16
- You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. – Matthew 5:48
Another way to show love for God is to submit to Him.
Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. – Matthew 6:10
A perfect Father knows what is the best for His family. If His children understand this, they will have no problem following the Father’s will. That is why we pray “Your will be done”. This means praying for His will to be done in the earth as well as in our lives. It means that we are asking for His will to be done…
- In how we live (our behavior and how we relate to others)
- In our dreams and hopes
- In the use of our time
- In the lives our children
- In our possessions (finances)
Why should I surrender my will to God? I am pretty sure that I want the best for myself. However, I don’t always have all the information or know what is the best course of action. For certain, I don’t know the future. God knows the future and definitely knows the best for me. So, surrendering my will to God and trusting Him is my best decision; a decision that allows me to leave in peace in the midst of any circumstance.
