They are important too
In the previous blog we talked about how important we are to God. But, what do we do about the reality of the world in which we live?
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus – Philippians 2:5
Even if others treat us without value, we can make a difference, just as Jesus did. This does not mean that we have to sacrifice ourselves at the level of Jesus. But there is a small sacrifice that can lead to a positive change in those around us.
in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. – Philippians 2:3-4
We live in a hurry, and as a result, we pass by people without noticing their existence. How about slow downing and paying attention to people? We do not know if that person:
- does not have money for the support of his/her family
- has a terminal illness
- is considering taking his/her life
- just lost a loved one
We may not be able to solve the person’s situation, but a smile, a greeting or a word of encouragement can have a great effect on a person in need. A simple gesture like these makes a person remember that he/she is loved. After all, Jesus told us:
Love the Lord your God … love your neighbor as yourself. – Matthew 22:37-39
Jesus not only died for you and for me, but also for all those around us. We were all equally lost. But everyone is so important, that after loving God, there is nothing more important than loving others.
Do we want a change in this world? It’s time we consider the importance of those around us and do something about it. It is time for us to love as Christ loved.
