Are you satisfied?
Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the Christmas season, and with this the celebrations. Given the common abundance of food in these meetings, it is not necessary to ask anyone if they are satisfied.
But the truth is that, in general, dissatisfaction characterizes our lives. What satisfies me today has a short duration. As soon as we have what we want, the satisfaction it produces begins to fade. Whether it’s food, positions, work, or relationships, the effect is the same: Nothing produces lasting satisfaction.
This is nothing new, as the same thing happened in Eden. Adam and Eve had literally everything a person could need. Moreover, they had a direct relationship with God. However, they let themselves be deceived and futilely thought that they could take God’s place, thus trying to replace the one who was the source of everything they had.
… “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. – Genesis 3:1-6
We could blame Adam and Eve for the adverse effect of their actions. But we do the same thing over and over again. We reject the only one who can truly bring satisfaction to our lives and replace him with material things, or even ourselves (Romans 1:18-23).
How about we change our focus and stop searching for those things that only offer temporary satisfaction? It is time for us to return to the provider of everything, and the source of true satisfaction. It is time to seek God.
