My Way
Every day, the idea that everyone has the right to do things their way is encouraged more and more. We see this idea promoted by advertisements in the media, movies, TV shows, political propaganda, social movements, and even some religious leaders.
Being able to do things my way gives us a sense of satisfaction, but does not necessarily mean it is the best way to do them. Adam and Eve chose to do things their way, thinking it would be best for them, but we know the result of their decision (Genesis 3:6.23-24).
It is true that even in the Bible we see the teaching that everyone can choose how to live their lives, but it also warns that all our decisions have consequences, for good or ill.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. – Romans 12: 2
We may be tempted to follow the trends of the world and do things our way, but the word of God offers us a better way: discerning the will of God.
Doing things according to the teachings of this world results in our expulsion from Eden (God’s presence). But thanks be to God that Jesus opened the door so that when we seek the will of God we are able to enjoy His presence again.
Doing things my way takes me nowhere. Let’s surrender our lives to the will of God and receive the result of doing things the best way: salvation and eternal life.
