Power
Who has never desired to have power? In one way or another at some point in our lives we have wished for power or authority to make something happen according to our expectations. We may each have different illustrations of what it means to have power, but there is one thing we can all agree on: there is no greater power that can be manifested in our lives than rising from the dead. The power by which Christ was raised from the dead is available to us.
And what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead …far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name … in this age but also in the one to come. – Ephesians 1: 19-21
Isn’t that great news? Well it doesn’t stop there, because in addition to power, God also has for us hope and riches (Ephesians 1: 16-21). With these three blessings, what more could we want?
But may I ask, if these benefits are available to us, why are we not receiving them? Why are we not enjoying them?
I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened – Ephesians 1 16-18a
The secret to achieving these benefits is in the knowledge of our God. But it doesn’t refer only to know him by name and title, as we say we know some people, for example the president. This knowledge includes knowing his character, his thinking, his ways and his will. It is necessary to know him like that in order to know how to take advantage of the hope, riches, and power that God offers us.
There is only one thing standing between us and the hope, riches, and power that God wants for us. Let us do as Paul did and pray for our God to give us “a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him.”
