The undecided
Whenever an electoral event approaches we witness a lot of political ads across the media. Political parties spend millions of dollars in order to sway the undecided. With this investment each candidate hopes to convince the undecided that their respective government platform is the best.
If political parties spend so much effort for a chance to win a position that only lasts for a short term, how much effort should be invested in something as important as sharing the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ? For politicians this is so important that they do whatever it takes to win the race. To God, salvation is of such importance that he gave up his own son as payment for the redemption of mankind. Surely there is no greater investment than this.
Jesus runs his campaign with a corps of volunteers who have known by experience the benefits of this salvation. They do not fight for something uncertain and temporary, but something unmistakable and eternal. However, I have to shamefully admit that if we compare the efforts invested by volunteers in a political campaign with the efforts of those who follow Jesus, it looks like it is the politicians who strive for something unmistakable and eternal.
Believers should be fighting vigorously to reach the lost for the kingdom of God. When a political candidate loses the vote of an undecided the latter can continue his life normally, but when someone loses the opportunity to hear the gospel their salvation is at risk.
The Lord … not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. – 2 Peter 3: 9
The message of Jesus is the only alternative for mankind. It is time for those who have enjoyed the benefit of salvation to intensely participate in the effort to advance the kingdom of God.
