In God We Trust
If you ask people if they believe in God they will probably tell you that they do. About 78% of the populations in the United States and 33% of the world population are Christians. However, when it comes to the question if they trust in God things might be totally different.
Is it possible to believe in God without trusting him? In order to answer this question lets first take a quick look at some definitions for believe and trust:
- Believe: accept as true; be confident about something; have a faith
- Trust: to have confidence or faith in; believe
As you can see it is difficult to differentiate these two words. In fact, both contain the word “faith” as part of their definitions.
It is not possible to believe in God without trusting him, but many people that identify themselves as Christians fail to demonstrate the principles of Christianity in their daily lives. There is only one way to show if I believe: to act according to what I believe. Otherwise my faith might be considered hypocrisy.
Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works – James 2-18
The United States currency contains the words “In God We Trust”, but in the time of need our trust is shifted from these words to the paper that holds them. The truth is that in time of need our trust is placed in our own capacity to solve the problems. When do we show our faith? Usually, when we have discarded all other options.
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! – Psalms 34:8
It is nice to have the words “In God We trust” in our currency. But it is due time to write them in a better place: in our hearts.
It is time for me to say: In God I trust
Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. – Psalms 37:5
