The forgotten season
For some weeks we have been enjoying the spring season: the trees, the flowers, the weather, longer days, outdoor activities, etc. We have completely forgotten the winter with its cold weather, the leafless trees, shorter days, etc.
Year after year we see the effects of winter in nature. Anyone not used to the changes that come with the seasons would be affected by looking at the leafless trees during the winter. But we have learned that even though it looks like there is no hope, the trees will come back to life when the spring comes. How this happens? All happens naturally.
We go through seasons in our lives as well. But when our winter season comes and it feels like we have lost all of “our leaves”, we lose hope and act as it is was the end. We shall instead follow the example of the trees. They are not “worried” when they begin loosing their leaves or when there are no leaves left on them. They just “trust” that the laws established by God will be fulfilled once again, and that soon a precious recovery process will bring them new leaves and their intended majesty will be restored.
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. – Genesis 1:27
We are the image of God. We were not created for suffering. We were neither created for death. If God wanted us to die he would not had put the tree of life in the middle of the garden (Genesis 2:9). Sufferings and death are a result of sin.
After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life – Genesis 3:24
However, God has established a law to help us spring back from our winter into a new life: faith in Jesus.
It sounds simple. It is! As we trust that there will always be a spring season after a winter, we can trust that Jesus will always be there to help us recover from anything we face in our lives, and even more, to give us a never-ending spring: eternal life.
