I remember when I had to decide which career path to choose. It was an important decision to make, since it was going to affect the rest of my life. I really liked my choice, but that doesn’t mean it was easy. I had to work hard to finish my degree, but it didn’t matter because I was clear that I had made the right decision. College prepared me to be able to exercise my career, and gave me the opportunity to turn the knowledge I was filled with into action.
I remember the time I made the decision to follow Christ. It was also a very important decision, since it was going to affect the rest of my life and beyond. At the beginning I only understood the basic concepts: I was a sinner; sin leads to condemnation and death; Jesus through his death paid the price for me; because of him, now I am forgiven and expecting eternal life.
I don’t regret my choice to follow Christ, but that doesn’t mean it has been easy. I have learned that God’s purpose was not just to save us, but also to transform us so we can become like His son. God wants to turn the knowledge of His word which we have been filled with into action.
…be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him…clothe yourselves with mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive…clothe yourselves with love…let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts…Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. – Colossians 3:10-16
Just as we allow college to prepare us for a career, we need to allow God to work in us as we are being transformed into what He intended us to be. As we are filled with the Spirit of God, let us make allowance for the power of the Spirit to turn into action.
