Hope
Christmas is a time of hope. However, the evil and afflictions that are overwhelming the world can lead us to lose hope. How good were those times when we expected Christmas with hope and the anticipation of receiving our gifts! It would be nice if we felt like children again. Some will say that this is not possible, because we are adults and we need to have common sense.
But what does it mean to have common sense? The answer depends on what Christmas means to us. If we believe that Christmas is just another holiday, then to be hopeless is common sense. But if we believe that Christmas is the celebration of God’s advent into the world in order to give His life as an offering for our sin and give us the opportunity for reconciliation and eternal life, then common sense is to be full of hope.
Having hope doesn’t mean rejecting the reality of the sufferings in this world, things that Jesus said we would experience (in the world you will have tribulation). Having hope means accepting the temporal reality, while recognizing the eternal reality available in Jesus.
Is it hard for you to believe in the meaning of Christmas? Perhaps it is time to accept the advice that Jesus gives us and become like children. Place your hope in God. His gift is reserved for all those who trust Him.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. – 1 Peter 1: 3-5
