Essential items
The crisis due to coronavirus has created problems in obtaining essential items, and for some reason, a shortage of toilet paper. The information we receive in crises like these puts us on the defensive, and can lead us to react absurdly and irrationally.
The effects of this crisis can be permanent. We don’t know when something similar can happen again. Perhaps we did not think about death before this, for why should I think about it if I am young or if I am completely healthy? Recognizing our powerlessness to prevent something like this from reaching us, what changes should we make to minimize the chances of this or any other disease from knocking on our doors?
As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. – Psalms 103:15-16
This crisis has not changed the reality of the frailty of our lives, but it has made us think about it. If we care about the things of this life, how much more should we care about eternal life been aware of the shortness of our days?
Who was thinking about the importance of toilet paper? But some have been deprived of it. Who thinks about the importance of the soul? But on an unexpected day we will have to give an account of our lives before God.
Coronavirus caught us off guard, but there is no reason to be caught off guard about eternal life:
Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand”. – Matthew 4:17
We don’t want to be deprived of toilet paper. So we now include it in the list of essential items.
Would you risk facing death without being certain about eternal life? Accept Jesus’ invitation and receive your true essential item.
