Hope
People can lose hope for many reasons, but probably most of the time for the wrong reasons. For example, there is a lot of hope around championship games. The fans hope that their team will win it all, and become the champions. Unfortunately, just a few of them will see their hopes fulfilled. This can be sad, but after all, it is just a game.
People can place their hopes in family, friends, religion, career, and many other things. We love our family and friends, but as humans, they can hurt us. We hope to have a career we enjoy, and can support our needs, but careers can be fleeting, bring you stress, and consume your time and energy. We hope for religion to bring us peace and happiness, but misled, it can lead you in the wrong direction. It doesn’t matter where we place our hope in this world, eventually it will be lost.
Three days after Jesus died in the cross, two of his disciples were walking, saddened by their lost. On their way, the resurrected Jesus joined them. However, they couldn’t recognize him, and started sharing with him how they have lost their hope.
It is sad to lose hope, but it is sadder when hope is right in front of you and you can’t see it. We might have had the same experience as these disciples. Our focus in what we have lost, prevents us from seeing the true hope set before us.
Jesus died in the cross to redeem us from our sins, and conquered death giving us hope of eternal life. He didn’t promise a problem-free life, but he promised that we will eventually overcome in Him.
In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. – John 16:33
Put your hope in Jesus: nothing else will do.
