Losing hurts
A recent American football game had a disappointing ending when the referees failed to call a play that would have changed the final result. For the losing team, this meant not being able to make it to the championship game. It’s just a game, but when it comes to your favorite team, losing hurts. This made many of this team’s fans call on the league for a rematch, in other words, to have another opportunity.
Losing a sports game has little relevance in life. There are certainly many things in which losing has a great impact. But nothing will cause more pain than neglecting the opportunity to receive eternal life.
For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? – Matthew 16:26
We all have failed God and have been excluded from his kingdom (Romans 3:23). But everyone has the opportunity to receive eternal life (John 3:16).
In the case of the football game we talked about, the team lost as a result of someone else’s negligence. But if we make the wrong decision regarding the gift of salvation in Jesus, we would not be able to blame anyone but ourselves.
In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God but you yourselves cast out. – Luke 13:28
The defeat of your favorite team is inconsequential, but losing your salvation is not a game. Anyone who experience this will probably ask for a new opportunity, but they will not have one. The time to win is now, and we cannot waste it.
Losing hurts, but there is no reason for that to be your destiny. Choose Jesus and secure your victory.
