Time to Make Amends
Last year my wife and I decided to join a gym. We liked the one we chose because it had a lot of equipment available, and we did not have to wait to use any of them. However, we noticed a change in in January: now there is almost no equipment available in the gym. It looks as if they were giving away free memberships.
There is a reason why gyms are at full capacity at the beginning of a year: it is time to amend the mistakes of the previous year. This includes diet and exercise: those things we should have done throughout the year.
We must take advantage of the beginning of a new year, not only by amending the disregard we have had with our physical health, but also amending the disregard of our spiritual health. In the same way that neglecting good eating habits and exercising affects our physical health, there are neglects that affect our spiritual health.
Dieting is not necessarily pleasant, nor is an exercise regimen. But we all know that both are necessary. In the same way, it is not easy to submit our life to the teachings and practices that are necessary to follow when we want to live according to the will of God.
For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. – Galatians 5:17
God offers us the opportunity to amend our relationship with Him. There is nothing to pay (this is a giveaway). But we do have to recognize that our spiritual life is out of shape, and that in order to solve it, there are behaviors that must be abandoned, and there are behaviors that must be started or put back into practice.
Accept the need to amend your life. Make up your mind and start moving in the right direction.
