The price of freedom
We live in a world that has achieved much knowledge. This knowledge has led us to feel self-sufficient. As a result the world rejects all kinds of teachings that can be considered obsolete or limiting to the pursuit of freedom according to each individual’s definition. This rejection includes the word of God.
We have rejected the word of God by taking it out of the schools and government offices, and we can even see how churches has started to remove it from its doctrines. But the worst is when we reject the influence of the word of God in our hearts.
Do we need the word of God? We have knowledge. We got rid of the ‘deceptions’ that kept us in ignorance. We no longer need to be told how to live, because everyone knows what is best for them. We’re doing great. We are free. At least that is what we believe.
The result?
- Many will do anything just to achieve what they want
- Some take the lives of others to seek notoriety or just because society has not made them happy
- Kids killing kids to satisfy fantasy characters
- A generation that has sacrificed their kids as they seek to achieve “a better life” for them
- Preachers who get rich while they forget the example set by Jesus
- Religious leaders rejecting the truth of the word of God to justify sinful behavior
- Etc….
This is a high price for what we call freedom. Why? The foundation of this freedom is built on sand.
Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it. – Matthew 7:24-27
We are paying the price of rejecting the word of God. We could be free from the word of God, but not from the consequences of which God warns us through His word. Freedom like that is not freedom at all. It is a very high price to pay.
What price are you willing to pay for your freedom? I thank God that Jesus paid the price for me.
