Unclog the drain
I don’t think anyone likes to unclog a drain. Anyone who has gone through this experience knows that it is unpleasant. With use, residues accumulate in the drain, slowly clogging it. The only way to avoid this problem is with proper maintenance. Delaying maintenance can only lead to a worse problem and the resulting consequence of having to invest a good amount of money to pay for an expert to solve it.
There are times in our lives when we might feel like a clogged drain. When this happens we feel as if life had lost its purpose. This is not something that happens overnight, but a process that occurs gradually. Different situations (bad decisions, wrong priorities, spiritual carelessness, sin, etc.) accumulate obstructing our flow of communication with God.
When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all day long. – Psalm 32:3
David the psalmist was going through this experience; he felt that his life had dried up in the midst of his distress (‘my bones grew old‘). Fortunately, he discovered that the reason for the problem was the lack of maintenance (‘when I kept silent‘). David understood that the solution to his problem was to confess his transgressions to God.
I acknowledged my sin to You and my iniquity I have not hidden I said ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord’, and you forgave the iniquity of my sin – Psalm 32:5
We are designed to be in a relationship with God. When this relationship does not exist or has deteriorated over time (lack of maintenance), we are overwhelmed with feelings of distress, worthlessness, death and the like. The reason is clear: the farther we are from the giver of life, the farther we will be from the purpose of life. The purpose of life can only be found in the giver of life.
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. – Psalm 32:8
We know life is not easy. But as we maintain a life of communion with God, we will grow in confidence and assurance that He is able to take care of our concerns and bring peace to our hearts.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.. – Philippians 4:6-7
Do not allow life’s circumstances to rob you from its purpose. Keep your life flowing in the mist of all circumstances through an ongoing relationship with your Creator.
