Treasure Hunting
Do you like Action and Adventure movies? I do, specially those related to treasure hunting, like ‘National Treasure’ and ‘Indiana Jones’. It is amazing the amount of danger the characters of these movies face. But they don’t care about any danger because they want to get to the hidden treasure.
We can define two main characteristics about treasure hunters:
- they make whatever sacrifices are needed to get the treasure
- they don’t give up until they obtain their treasure
Even the bible has stories about treasure hunters.
The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field. – Mathew 13:44
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it. – Mathew 13:45-46
The men in these parables did as the characters in a treasure hunting movie: They found their treasure and then gave up everything so they could get possession of the treasure.
Maybe the treasures in the ‘Indiana Jones’ or the ‘National Treasure’ movies, or the treasure in these parables are not so attractive to you. Or maybe they are somewhat attractive but they are not worth the sacrifice.
But there is a treasure that everybody should seek: the Kingdom of Heaven. The Kingdom of Heaven brings justice, righteousness, peace, happiness, joy, love, and eternal life. Is there is any treasure worth the sacrifice it is the Kingdom of Heaven. And most important: this treasure is not hidden, so there is no treasure hunting required.
The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. – Romans 10:8-9
Are you ready to claim your treasure?
