Liberty
I recently had the opportunity to visit the Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell. It was a special feeling being in the same place where the Declaration of Independence was adopted, and where the Constitution of the United States was drafted and signed. Being there made me remember of all the events that took place and the sacrifices that were made, and are still being made, so we can now enjoy the benefits of liberty.
Among those benefits are:
- The right to vote
- The Freedom of Speech
- The Freedom of Religion
- The Freedom of Press
- The abolition of slavery
Having been born with all these benefits might not help us appreciate the importance of the liberty won by others for us. But there are people who, due to the different type of governments around the world, do not have the same privileges provided by liberty as we do, and would give anything to obtain them. However, there is a kind of liberty that is available to all the people in all the nations of the world: the liberty that Jesus Christ won for us with his sacrifice.
Before the sacrifice of Jesus we were separated from God. The freedom provided by Jesus gives us the opportunity to make peace with God. Before the sacrifice of Jesus we had no power over sin and its consequences. The freedom provided by Jesus gives us the opportunity to reject sin and enjoy life in the midst of any circumstance. Most important, before the sacrifice of Jesus our lives were limited to our days in this earth, but the freedom provided by Jesus frees us from the limitations of our current life and gives us the opportunity to obtain eternal life.
We might not fully appreciate the liberty won by Jesus Christ for us, but we shall remember that when our days in this earth are over, only those whom received freedom through Jesus will be able to enjoy the benefits of eternal life.
Do you want unlimited freedom? There is nothing to do. There is no more sacrifice required. You just need to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and begin enjoying the benefits of everlasting freedom.
