God, Heaven and Traffic Signs
How would life be without traffic signs? Can you imagine being able to drive without restrictions? No stops, no red lights, no maximum speed, and no limits. It sounds great, but only if you are the only one in the road. The truth is that even though we might not like traffic signs, following them save lives. Following them helps us get safely to our destiny. Failure to follow them costs tens of thousands lives lost in the U.S. every year. That is a high price to pay.
The word of God (the Bible) is similar to traffic signs. It would be nice to live your live without restrictions and nobody telling you what to do. But we do not live alone in the earth. God’s laws are intended so we can live a better life and have better relations with others and our creator. Following it help us get safely to our heavenly destiny. The word of God saves lives. It is like traffic signs that guide us through the road of our lives. It shows us:
- the Speed (Limit) in the road of your life
- when to Be Prepared To Stop
- when to Stop and when to Go
- when to slow down to learn a lesson (School Zone)
- when a Bump is coming or the Road Narrows in your life
- when your life is expecting changes (Road Work Ahead)
- when it is important to Yield to others
- when the road of your life is getting Slippery
- the Maximum Weight you can carry
- to be humble (Low Clearance)
- to love others (Share The Road)
- the hidden dangers (Hidden Driveway)
- the Roads that are Closed to your life and the roads that take you to a Dead End
- if you are going the Wrong Way
- how to prepare for the Curves Ahead
- if this is your Exit
- that there is only One Way to God
- which is the Only way to heaven
From now on whenever you see a traffic sign remember that in the same way they are there to protect you from accidents, the word of God is available to bless you and protect you from spiritual death.
Not obeying God’s word means rejecting his offering of eternal life with him. This is a high price to pay.
Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it.
See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed…This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the LORD your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. – Deuteronomy 30:11-20
