Hide-and-seek
Did you ever play hide-and-seek? What an emotion it was to hide in such a way that nobody could find you! However, after some time we had to leave our hiding place because we got tired of being hidden.
Hiding is fun in children’s games. But what about when we hide because feel someone chasing us? That is not fun at all.
Even worse is when we try to hide our behavior from others. There are behaviors that, although we might not feel they are wrong, cause us shame when we expose them to the light of God’s word. As a result, we try to hide ourselves.
This reaction is nothing new.
And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.
But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”
And he said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked, and I hid myself.”
He said…“Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?“
Genesis 3:8-11
Everyone in one way or another has done, or still does, things that do not please God. Perhaps, we can live for a time in indifference. But when we hear the voice of God, our heart betrays us without remedy. The shame of sin seizes us, making us feel as if we were naked before His presence. We try to hide, but our meager efforts fail.
Staying hidden is not a game. In the long run we will have to leave our hiding place and face reality. How great it is that God provided cover for our spiritual nakedness through Christ!
…seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. – Colossians 3: 9-10
Get out of hiding and start living in the freedom of God’s forgiveness in Jesus Christ.
