No More Christmas
The Christmas season has a changing effect on people. It is a season that brings feelings of joy for many. We know that the reason for Christmas is the celebration of the birth of our savior. However, are we celebrating this season the right way? If we do a self-analysis, what is our response to the following questions?
- Where is my heart as I celebrate Thanksgiving Day?
- How much do I think of my Lord during Christmas time?
- How can I honor my God during this celebration?
- Is the image of Christ present on the gifts that I give on Christmas Day?
- How do I celebrate Jesus with the way that I use my money during this season?
Of course, Christmas is a good opportunity to get together with friends and family and bring joy to others. But even after considering these good things, is it possible that we may be celebrating a Christmas without Christ? Are we celebrating the season without considering its true meaning? Using the name of our Savior as a reason for the celebration does not necessarily make the season one where his name is honored.
I do not want to celebrate Christmas anymore, at least not the way I am used to. I want to celebrate this season recognizing that with the process that began with the birth of Christ and culminated in his death and resurrection, God gave my life the gift of salvation and eternal life. Now that’s a reason to celebrate not only during this season but during each day that God gives me. No more Christmas with vain joys that vanish as the holidays come to an end.
Oh God, help me to celebrate Christmas with a joy produced by the knowledge that the Savior lives in my heart.
Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. – Luke 2: 10-11
