The Jesus in me
The concept of Jesus living in us might sound sacrilegious to some, as we know that our nature is inclined to sin. However, this is not the nature that God intended for us. We are so important to God that He sent his son to give his life in a sacrifice meant to restore our purpose and the relationship with our creator (John 3:16).
We might think that God could have done this without sending His son to live as a man to be ultimately sacrificed in the cross, but His plan had a purpose. There was a purpose in His son’s sacrifice (to redeem us), but there was also a purpose in all stages of Jesus’ life (to show us how to live according to God’s will). Our goal is not only to achieve heaven when we die; it is also to experience God’s kingdom while we are living. To think otherwise is to be shortsighted.
…building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. – Ephesians 4:11-14
Restoring God’s purpose for us includes attaining the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. Reading the context of this scripture, we can clearly understand that this goal is not meant to be achieved in heaven. God wants us to attain the fullness of Christ right here and right now so we can live free from the deceptions that lead us to sin.
Not that we will never sin, for God clearly understands our weakness and has provided forgiveness (1 John 1:8-9). However, we shall not make sin our way of living (1 John 3:4-10), for practicing sin will prevent us from enjoying the kingdom of God.
Why shall we conform to living our lives limited by the consequences of sin? Let’s allow the fullness or our savior to be manifested in ourselves and start enjoying the blessing of the kingdom of God.
…which is Christ in you, the hope of glory – Colossians 1:27
