Fairy tale
One of the most famous fairy tales is the story of Snow White. The story is about a young woman whose beauty was envied by her stepmother, who was willing to kill her in order to be considered the most beautiful woman. After several attempts to kill Snow White, the wicked stepmother achieves her purpose by deceiving her with a poisoned apple. As a result, Snow White falls into a state of unconsciousness, as if she was dead. Fortunately (at least in one version) Snow White comes back to life when she is saved by the kiss of a prince. And, as expected in fairy tales, then they lived happily ever after.
The basic content of this story has many elements that seem adapted from the story of redemption of mankind. God created us to live forever, and so we could have a direct relationship with Him (Genesis 2:9, 3:8). Just as Snow White’s beauty was envied by her stepmother, our privileged position was envied by our enemy. For this reason, Satan has been implementing a plan that seeks to separate us from God (2 Corinthians 2:11). In the case of Adam and Eve his plan was achieved by deception when he made them eat the forbidden fruit.
Now the serpent was more cunning … he said to the woman, Has God indeed said, you shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said to the serpent, the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden God has said, you shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die. Then the serpent said to the woman, you will not surely die … your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil… she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. – Genesis 3:1-6
The enemy’s strategy remains the same: to sow doubt about God’s promises in our hearts, and deceive us with false promises of happiness. Not all of us have been deceived in the same way, but one way or another we’ve all eaten our version of the forbidden fruit.
When we fall into the deception of the enemy we sin against God and enter into a state of spiritual death. But thank God for Jesus, who came to save us by restoring our relationship with God and giving us the opportunity to gain eternal life.
And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins – Ephesians 2:1
We do not live in a fairy tale, but there is an enemy who is constantly trying to separate us from God’s purpose for our lives. We do not live in a fairy tale, but we can live happily ever after if we stand firm in the faith in our Savior.
