Closed doors
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. – Revelation 3:20
These words are mainly used to attract unbelievers to Christ, but in its original context these words were addressed to believers.
How is it possible to have Christ knocking at the door of a believer? Isn’t he supposed to be in the house with the believer? Carelessness in any relationship can make the relationship to gradually cool down until the relationship is non-existing. This may also occur in the relationship between a believer and his Savior. It is as we had closed our doors to Jesus.
Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent. – Revelation 2:4-5
Jesus gave his life to save us from a life of sin and nonsense that was taking us towards damnation. It’s because of that love that he does not want us to go back to that life, which can happen when we do not maintain a relationship with him. For this reason he warns that our “lampstand will be removed from its place.”
If we have neglected our relationship with our Savior it is time to repent, get up from our slumber and open our door to Jesus so we can get back into the relationship that he wants with us.
