Stay Still
As believers we receive many blessings every daily. Life is easy when all we see is blessing upon blessing. We are happy if all goes according to what we expect. But what happens when things do not go as expected? What happens when something goes wrong? What happens when it looks like blessings has stopped flowing?
It is at these times when questions arise: Why me? Where is God? When will this end? But even on some occasions we dare say to God, “Why have you allowed this? I have been faithful to you. This is not fair.”
The bible narrates different situations where people went through really difficult times. Let’s see some of these cases:
- A prophet surrounded by the armies of the enemy – 2 Kings 6:15
- A man lost everything – Job 1:13-18,2:7-9
- A city of Israel suffering famine – 2 Kings 6:24-29le
- An apostle beaten and send to prison – Acts 16:19-24
Do you identify with any of these cases? Have you been surrounded by the enemy? Have you lost everything? Are you suffering famine? Have you been unjustly beaten and imprisoned? Your case might be totally different, but it doesn’t make it less difficult. It doesn’t matter what we go through, our perception about God can not be based only on what we see or what we understand.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. – Isaiah 55:8
God uses these times to show His faithfulness towards us. The truth is that we won’t be able to fully understand God’s greatness until He demonstrates His greatness in our problem. That is exactly what happened in these cases.
- Elisha was surrounded by the enemy. His servant was able to see the amount of people in the enemy’s army. But it wasn’t until Elisha prayed that the servant’s eyes were opened and he was able to see the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. Elisha and his servant were saved from the enemy (2 Kings 6:17-19).
- Job lost his family and everything he had. But in the process he was able to experience God in a way he never did before (Job 42:5). After this experience, Job ended with more than he ever had (Job 42:10-15).
- Samaria was surrounded by the enemy and the people were suffering famine. But when there were no options for them, God delivered them from the enemy’s army in a miraculous way (2 Kings 7:6-7).
- Paul and Silas were preaching the gospel. Some people didn’t like the results of their message and accused them. They were beaten and put into prison under the worst conditions, but there they decided to keep praying and singing hymns to God while the other prisoners were listening. Then an earthquake caused all the prison doors to open and everybody’s chains to come loose. Paul and Silas were liberated, and miraculously no prisoner escaped (Acts 16:25-28).
Have you had an experience like these? Maybe it is time to pray and open your eyes and see that you are not alone. Maybe it is time to get a deeper relation with God. Maybe it is time to accept that your only option is God. Maybe it is time to pray and sing to God in the midst of your problem.
God will not always save us from the problems. However, no matter the circumstances that we are facing we can be sure that our Father will always be there with us, and at the end we will always get the best.
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. – Romans 8:28
What God sends or what God allows in our lives will always be the best that can happen to us, including death. Why? Our hope is not placed in the temporary physical life that we have in this body. Our hope is in the eternal life that we will receive. As Paul said “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21)
This does not mean that we shall wish to die or that we shall stop praying for God to heal the sick. It means that our vision of life is shall not conform to the limitations of this world, but shall be transformed according to God’s promises to us.
Our faith in God is a powerful tool, but only if it is exercised.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Fil 4:6-7
Are you going through any difficult situation in your life? You have 2 options:
- Add concern to your problems , or
- Stay calm and be confident that God will continue to be God.
Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! – Psalm 46:10
