Back to Routine
It seems like it was just yesterday that we were celebrating Christmas and saying farewell to the old year. But time passes and February is already around the corner. Gone are the days of rest, the celebrations, the gifts, and the anticipation of a new year. The dream is over and we have to wake up to the reality of our lives. We need to get back to routine.
However, we are not required to re-incorporate everything that made up our routine. We have to evaluate it and make some changes. We must leave behind the harmful practices, maintain those that were useful to us, and implement new ones that will result in our physical, emotional, and spiritual improvement.
You may be expecting me to write that it is necessary to include God in our routine. But what I am going to write is just the opposite: It’s time that we take God out of our routine. No, I’m not losing my mind. Routines are good, but a time comes when we are so accustomed to them that we do not even realize what we are doing. We need to include God in our daily lives, but not in this way.
My relationship with God is not real if it occurs unconsciously.
- Praying without internalizing my words.
- Worshiping God with words and songs without experiencing Him in my mind and spirit.
- Browsing His Word without internalizing its meaning.
- Congregating without experiencing communion.
- Tithing and giving offerings without considering the process of faith, trust, and commitment involved.
Let’s not try to add God to our routine. Rather, let’s add everything we do in our lives to the foundation of a relationship with God.
My flesh and my heart fail; But the rock of my heart and my portion is God for ever. – Psalm 73:26
