Unfulfilled resolutions
Is there anyone with unfulfilled resolutions during the year? I am guilty as charged. Once again the year ends with missed goals.
One of my resolutions was to lose weight: unfortunately, I did not succeed. Why do we fail? In my case it was the lack of follow-up. My experience has been that I can maintain a diet and exercise routine while under the supervision of a health coach. As soon as I try by myself everything collapses. I cannot do it without help.
The most important resolution in life should be my relationship with God. We live in a world where everything seems to drag us in the opposite direction. As much as we think we love God, for some reason we end up doing something contrary to what that love must represent (Romans 7:15). Why? We cannot live for God without help.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. – John 14:26
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. – Romans 8:26
Jesus did not leave us alone. He knew we would need help. The Holy Spirit was sent to live in us, helping us to live in the freedom that Jesus bought for us with His sacrifice.
I cannot lose weight without the help of the health coach. Much less can I seek God if I do not submit to the influence of the Holy Spirit.
God, help me to submit myself to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Help me to make you the most important resolution of my life.
