Redefining Jesus
We are living in very confusing times. Nothing is set in stone. It is all a matter of perspective. Everyone gets to define things their own way. Even Jesus gets to be redefined, or at least some think they can.
Can a handgun be used as a hammer? Is it fine to use a saw in place of a toenail clipper? You can try, but the consequences could be dangerous. Similarly, we shall never try to redefine the biblical Jesus.
Jesus IS what I need, not what I want him to be.
He is the ultimate manifestation of love. Jesus gave his life to rescue us from the consequences of sin. How can we allow sin back into our lives?
No one can love more than Jesus. So why “in the name of love” do we try to define doors that lead to God? Jesus is the door, the only one that opens us the opportunity to reconcile with God.
He is the way, not a road that we take when we want, and then forget in favor of shortcuts. A shortcut will eventually make us lose the way.
He is the source of living waters; any other source will leave us unsatisfied.
He is the light. The light does not hide the darkness but dissipates it. We cannot live in the darkness of sin and in his presence at the same time.
Jesus is the life. Rejecting his teachings leads back to death.
Are you enjoying the real Jesus or a forgery? Trying to redefine the real Jesus to fit our own interests is just foolishness. After all, a fake Jesus can’t save us.
It is not for us to define who Jesus is. We are only called to follow him as he leads us in our path to salvation.
