Crucify him
It would be expected that the religious leaders during Jesus’s time were the most prepared to know about the awaited Messiah, but they were blinded by the influence of their own customs. Their blindness was such that at the moment of truth they rejected the promised Messiah, becoming allies with their oppressive government with the purpose of getting rid of him who was a threat to their religious customs.
But the Jews cried out, “If you release this man, you are not Caesar’s friend. Everyone who makes himself a king opposes Caesar.”… They cried out, “Away with him, away with him, crucify him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar.”- John 19: 12-15
We find it difficult to understand how these religious leaders were capable of such a thing, but don’t we do the same? Modern Christianity wants an alliance with worldly practices and customs.
Every time we deny Jesus’s teachings we pick Barabbas over him. Every time we try to defy his words we cry out “crucify him“. Jesus said “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words shall not pass away (Matthew 24:35)”, but do we obey his teachings about…?
- Marriage and sexuality
- Our attitude towards money
- Good works
- Love for others
- Our attitude towards those in need
- Our love for the things of the world
What happened with ‘not an iota, not a dot, will pass’? Are we willing to deny any scripture that does not conform to our culture? Only our Savior is able to show us the way of salvation, anyone else is a deceiver who can only direct us on a path of destruction.
Every day is an opportunity to either ally with Jesus or to call for him to be crucified. What you do is your own decision. Just remember that your decision will determine your final destination.
