Love is…
Every year, as Valentine’s Day approaches we see an increase in the number of television commercials that ‘define’ how to express your love to someone else. According to these commercials:
- Love is giving your loved one this brand of car
- Love is giving your loved one jewelry from this jeweler
- Love is taking your loved one to this restaurant
- Love is buying this perfume for your loved one
- Love is giving a box of these chocolates to your loved one
- etc…
The person giving a gift has one problem: how to know what the perfect gift is (of course, some of those reading this wouldn’t mind receiving any of these gifts).
For the person receiving the gift, it doesn’t matter how much you enjoyed it, sooner or later it will lose its importance. The perfect gift would be one that offers never-ending satisfaction.
I don’t think there is a perfect gift in this world, except the gift of salvation. If there is any gift that shows what love is, it is the gift of salvation. This gift required the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross to give us the opportunity to have life. This gift provides never-ending satisfaction, because once you have it, it is enjoyed for eternity.
Do you want to make a gift of love? Live your life so that God’s love is reflected through you.
Have you not received the perfect gift? Surrender your life to God today, receiving Jesus as your savior, and begin to enjoy the gift of eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16
